Twelve-year-old Jack is a star
TWELVE-year-old Jack Danby, in his first season with Midland, is certainly a fast learner.
It came as no surprise when, at only his fifth attempt, he took top spot at Sherwood Forest Farm Park Fishery.

RUNNER-UP: Midland's Gary Smith, who was second at Sherwood Forest Farm Park
Drawn on peg three, he pole-fished caster across – on advice from the bailiff – for 23-13-8 of chub and ide.
Gary Smith, on peg 17, might have won but a couple of carp shed the hook and he finished with 22-1-8 on caster. He landed a couple of bonus carp, late on in the near-side margin.
Anthony White took third with 18-8 off peg 10, two carp on meat to go with ide on worm.
Only a couple of fish separated the top three in the Blankers annual night match at Lincolnshire's Fenlake Fishery.
Ian Goodacre just edged out Len Robinson and Glenn Ford to claim his fourth straight win.
Goodacre fished bread shallow on his top two to catch small carp, before a late switch to meat on the deck saw him pick up a better stamp of fish to 5lb.
Paul Smith just missed the magic ton mark in the Waltonians match on Hemmington carp lake.
He weighed 97-12 on halibut pellet and dog biscuit, which included bream to 2lb off the top.
Mick Uwins was second with 85-2 on biscuit.
Matchmen Bulwell had a slow start at the prolific Shearsby Valley Lakes. Lots of fish were cruising on the surface but floating baits were banned by the owner on the day.
Connor Clark, on peg 11, won with 77-12 of carp to 8lb. He took full advantage of two empty pegs to his left and fed heavily down the edge catching on corn over caster and pellets.
Richard Cooke, on peg 14, landed 41-8 of carp to 6lb on corn tight to the island. He had a late run of carp shallow down the track on pellet.
He just edged out Simon Cooke, at the next peg, who had with 41lb of carp to 7lb, on pellet 1ft deep.
Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society's second match of the season was fished in blazing-hot conditions at the Woodhouse Farm Fishery, at Longford.
Dave Mayo made excellent use of peg 1, taking 47-10 of carp to 7lb on paste.
Paul Richardson (peg 25) alternated between method feeder and pole and paste, taking carp to 6lb in his 41-8.
Long Eaton tackle dealer Aubrey Wainwright (peg 24) took third with 33-4 of carp, on paste over caster.
Match 3 (on the Erewash Canal for the Victoria Cup) has been put back to Wednesday July 15. It will take place after Match 4 (at Robinwood Fishery, Ingleby, for the H Mountney Momorial Trophy) on Sunday July 12.
Radcliffe had a decent day on the Trent at Rolleston, with skimmers, hybrids and roach to 1lb coming out. John Urruty, on peg 24, followed up his win on the same venue last year, using maggot on groundbait feeder for 20-7.
Paul Gilbert won a good Bingham match at Fishpool with 59-11 of carp to 5lb on bread at 16m. Matt Wallington was second with 41-5 on paste.
Dave Tizzard lifted the John Gaunt trophy with 20-12 of carp and tench in the Arnold Ex-Service match at Misterton Hall.
Acorn AC averaged 18lb a man at Aldercar Lane. With the majority of fish under 1lb, apart from a couple of lumps, they were kept busy throughout the match.
Mark Smith, on peg 22, fished pellet and corn, feeding caster, for 34lbs. He also picked up the £96 Golden Peg.
Barnstone suffered a rare defeat on their own water when they lost 117-2 to 106-4 against Collingham. Cedric Baldwin took top spot with 30-6 at fancied peg 46. He had four carp, a tench and bits.
Brin Marrison was second with 17-2 of skimmers at peg 41, while Andy Gammon was third with 17lb, which included a carp, at peg 9.
ROF were on Moat pool at Hemmington where Trev Hill made the best use of fancied peg 7. He used floating bread for 42-12, just clear of Shaun Butler who fished pellet on top of the sunken island for 37-10.
