Your votes can help to save girls' club future
A PLAY project for girls is appealing to the public to help it secure vital funding towards its future.
The Bulwell Toy Library's after-school girls' club gives young ladies aged nine to 13 the chance to get involved in arts, games and discussions.
But it is under threat of closure because of a lack of funds so the toy library has applied for funding through the NatWest bank's Community Force scheme.
Steve Parkinson, project manager at the toy library, said the club had made a big difference to girls in Bulwell.
"Our club has been running for over three years and we want to keep it going," he said.
"As well as introducing girls to loads of different activities, it gives them a chance to spend time with their friends and talk about things that matter to them in a safe place with supportive staff around."
The club is one of hundreds of projects competing to be awarded one of three £6,000 grants.
People can choose which charities receive the funding by voting online for their favourite.
Money will be handed to the three charities which receive the most votes.
Mr Parkinson added: "It would be really sad if it had to close so please, please take a few minutes to vote for us – it could make a big difference to the lives of girls in Bulwell."
The club meets during term time at the Children's Centre, in Steadfold Close, every Friday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
One 11-year-old girl at the club said: "I get space away from people who are annoying and I get to make things that are useful and crafty.
"I attend because I like making things, my friends go and it relaxes me. I would also like to do more courses and get more certificates."
Voting opens on Monday, September 26, and closes on Sunday, October 3. To vote, call 0800 2100 246 or visit www.communityforce.natwest.com.
