What is the history of The Smears?

We've been together ten years next year. We met kind of by chance and we've released two albums, toured Britain numerous times, been on tour in Europe twice, supported some pretty big bands, and now we're facing our first proper music video release, a third album and a week long tour of California next year. Pretty awesome stuff.

Describe your sound.

Grunge and punk have a baby and it's called Grunk. That's what we play.

Any claims to fame?

We're friends with Dogbones who are all ex-Queen Adreena. They're playing our video launch tomorrow night. We've supported The Buzzcocks, hung out with Jennifer Finch (L7), met Patti Smith, chatted to Poly Styrene, been interviewed for TV in Holland, Kim Gordon has just been given a copy of our record, we've partied with Skindred, our records sell worldwide, we've been booked to play Rebellion (Britain's biggest punk festival)...

Which are your favourite venues to play in Notts?

The Old Angel, The Maze, The Chameleon and The Navigation.

What should we expect at one of your gigs?

Loud, fast, sweaty punk rock fun. Good music, good times and to wake up the next day swearing never to drink again.

Any music for sale?

We have two albums on Spotify, iTunes and at thesmears.bigcartel.com.

Which other Notts bands/musicians do you rate?

Sleaford Mods, Widows, Pilgrim Fathers, Yes My Ninjas, Taken By The Tide, Drunken B*stards and The Hip Priests.

Website?

You can find us on Facebook, just search for The Smears.

Anything else?

We're here for your daughters.
