THE deputy manager of a bookmakers who was accused of altering betting slips to steal £2,000 from the company will not face a re-trial.

Prosecutors offered no evidence on five charges of theft against Benjamin Wager on Friday.

Jurors at Nottingham Crown Court failed to reach verdicts on those allegations at Wager's trial last week.

They had cleared Wager on three charges of theft when they were discharged from further deliberations on the remaining counts.

The 22-year-old, of Mayo Road, Sherwood, maintained he was "100%" innocent, and denied all eight counts.

It was alleged he altered betting slips after races and pocketed the cash.

He worked at Coral for 18 months before being accused of thefts in June and July, 2007.

As well as working at the Mansfield Road shop in Nottingham, he covered for absent staff at the branch on Alfreton Road.
