Verdi Requiem at the Albert Hall
Lavish and dramatic, Verdi's Requiem is the closest thing to opera in religious music. This late nineteenth-century Italian masterpiece is unashamedly theatrical, with episodes of high drama contrasted with moments of great tenderness. Feel the electrifying power of the Dies Irae as the concert hall itself trembles at the massive sound, and revel in the lyricism of the virtuoso solo singing. All the pleasure and excitement of opera is here, filling the sacred text with radiant colour.
