No strings attached for Phillips
CHARLOTTE Phillips's bid for international success at an event in Spain almost didn't happen.
Phillips, from Radcliffe and based at the Nottingham Tennis Centre, completed the opening week at the Sanxenxo International by winning the U16 doubles event and reaching the quarter-finals of the girls singles.

But the 15-year-old's tournament nearly didn't get off the ground when security at Liverpool Airport confiscated her roll of Babolat replacement strings.
She was stopped as a terrorist suspect and told she "might use the strings to tie someone up." So they had to be left behind.
Phillips said: "With only three racquets left, I just hope I don't break another string. Imagine having to quit at match point with no more racquets left."
Britain's best young tennis players will be in action this weekend as the national finals for Team Tennis: NJCL are held at the City of Nottingham Tennis Centre.
Teams in five separate age groups will battle it out to decide who will be crowned boys' and girls' national champions. Each match will consist of two opening doubles rubbers followed by four singles.
For the first time in the competition's history, the event will take place in Nottingham using both outdoor and indoor courts. Throughout the summer teams competed in regional events to earn a place.
Among the favourites are the home team, Nottingham Tennis Centre, who are the reigning champions in four age groups.
Steven Martens, LTA player director, said: "The team environment encourages a healthy competitive spirit."
Admission is free and all spectators are welcome.
