Vernon Villa get easy passage

Tuesday, October 07, 2008, 00:00

It was KO Cup day in the Premier Section, albeit a truncated first round in which there were four ties.

Unfortunately, Clifton Centrals had to withdraw, giving Vernon Villa Sunday a safe passage through.

Pride of place went to the tie between Premier side Nottm WI Cavaliers and BTSC from Division One.

The visitors were 5-4 ahead with a minute of normal time remaining, when they conceded the equaliser and Cavaliers snatched it with the last kick of the game.

Damian Pennant netted a hat-trick and Adam Robb and Luke Shepherd two apiece for Cavaliers, while Daniel Dennis (3), Adam Chenery (2) and Leon Brooks netted for the unfortunate visitors.

Divisional superiority told in the other two encounters where Carl Westcarr also bagged three, with Jafford Henery, Wes Burke, Andy Smith and Viv O'Connor contributing in Clumber's 7-0 thrashing of Division One's Old Colonial.

Chey Betteridge and Ricky Hodgson got three in Plough Barfly's 9-3 victory over Chesterfield Arms. Carl Wilson (2) and Eddie Draper replied.

Scots Grey went three points clear at the top of the Premier Division with a 3-1 success at Nuthall. The hosts deservedly led at half time through James Needham but the champions hit back through Dwayne Soar, Jamie Moore and Will Heath.

Ryan Bowen hit two and Luke Smith one as Arnold FC overcame Radford Park Rangers 3-1. Carl Litchfield replied.

Rolls Royce Leisure Sunday maintained their 100% record as Andy Start (penalty) and Kyle McDermott scored but were made to battle for their 2-1 success as Adam Forry reduced the arrears for FC Clobber. George Street went second, Mark Spencer scoring the only goal at CVR Meadows.

There were a number of close encounters in Division Two but the only clear-cut scoreline was at Fat Cat, where visitors Lenton Villa had Jason Wynne (3) and Michael Edwards (2) netting as they displaced Rolls Royce Villa at the top with a 5-1 victory.

Villa were held to a 2-2 draw at Bulwell Rangers, where Courtney Hastings scored twice for the hosts. Danny Haynes and Jamie Wheatley replied.

Martin Radmall (2) and Adam Smith ensured that New Fairham emerged with 3-2 success over Crusader, who had Tim Selfe and Mark Stratford on target.
