Tann: I'm ready and waiting for Notts call

Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 08:00

ADAM Tann today declared he will be ready to seize his chance when it comes.

The 26-year-old defender has not started any of Notts County's opening six games in League Two this season.

He has only made one substitute league appearance for the Magpies against Bournemouth, after playing in cup games against Doncaster Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Scunthorpe United.

It is a complete contrast to last season when he captained the side, started 40 out of 46 league games and won the club's Player of the Year award.

Tann admits he is deeply frustrated at being on the substitutes' bench, with boss Ian McParland preferring Mike Edwards and Michael Johnson in the centre of defence and on-loan Jason Beardsley at right-back.

But he said: "I am professional and experienced enough to know it is a long season and my chance will come.

"You have to be ready to seize the opportunity when it comes - and I will be ready.

"There will be a time when there is a dip in form, and if that's the case I am going to be ready to step in."

With no reserve team at Meadow Lane, Tann admits it will be difficult for him to maintain his match fitness while he is out of the team.

"It is certainly a factor. There were a lot of cup games in the first month which was great for us lads not playing in the league," he added.

"But we are out of those two competitions now.

"It makes it hard to keep your match fitness up but we have got a good fitness team and they are keeping us ticking over as best as they can to keep us as fit as possible.

"I am feeling very good, probably as fit as I have been for a long time because we had a good pre-season."
