Johnson: Notts County's best is still to come
The Magpies moved up to 12th in League Two after beating Aldershot, their first league win of the season.
Five players in the starting line-up were new signings, with Russell Hoult and Johnson also playing having agreed permanent deals at Meadow Lane after loan spells last season.
On-loan Jason Beardsley, Matt Hamshaw, Jamie Forrester and Delroy Facey were all signed by boss Ian McParland during the summer.
And Jamie Clapham was making his home debut after signing a short-term deal two weeks ago.
Johnson is confident McParland has built a squad capable of developing into a formidable force.
He said: "There is a sense of relief because we have won.
"None of us were panicking. We knew it was going to come because we have been playing some really great football.
"I always believe if you continue to do the right things then good will follow.
"We have deserved a win and hopefully now we will kick on.
"We knew as soon as we got it we would fly up the table, and not be too far away from the play-offs.
"We are sitting in a nice position now and I think there is a lot more to come from us."
Johnson believes the experience in the Magpies' ranks proved vital during the club's winless run.
He said: "Lots of fans were panicking and I can understand why. But I have been in the game for a number of years and know not to press the panic button.
"The likes of myself, Jamie (Forrester), big Delroy (Facey) and Houlty, just kept telling the younger lads to keep doing what they were doing and it would eventually turn for us.
"Now hopefully everybody will settle down and we will start to see a Notts County side performing and winning more games."
