'No privatisation'
LABOUR county councillor Alan Charles has been sworn in as the commissioner in Derbyshire.
The 63-year-old former deputy chairman of Derbyshire Police Authority beat Tory Simon Spencer, independent Rod Hutton and UKIP's David Gale to the £75,000-a-year role.
Mr Charles said: "What I can assure the people of Derbyshire of is that privatisation of any part of the police in the county will not be on my agenda. I intend to work closely with the chief constable and look forward to continuing what is already a good working relationship developed during my time of the police authority."
Mr Charles pulled out of the election campaign in the early stages, thinking a conviction when he was 13 would mean he would not be able to stand. He was reinstated after legal advice.
