Join gentlemen who love to sing

UNTIL 1957, a band of Nottingham gentlemen friends, who loved male voice singing, were called "The Gleemen".

This title was really a hang over from the Victorian period when groups of men who loved to sing gathered, sometimes informally, to enjoy each other's music and company, and to entertain.

In 1957 The Gleemen became the Nottingham Male Voice Choir.

The choir sang, as they do now, at many venues and in support of different organisations in the area.

The friendly choir continues today and has sung in other countries in joint concerts with other ladies' and men's choirs.

The choir, which celebrated its 50th birthday in 2007, has enjoyed some success in competition and has raised considerable funds for good causes.

The choir sings a wide variety of music, ranging from Victorian ballads, hymns and traditional, to songs from South Pacific, Oklahoma and the shows, and the music of Matt Monro and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

New members are always welcome. The choir rehearses on Thursdays from 8pm to 9.30pm near the Queen's Medical Centre.
