Froch launches community protection scheme

Wednesday, August 26, 2009, 13:36

CHAMPION boxer Carl Froch has helped launch a drive to get people to train to become community protection officers.

WBC super middleweight champion Froch was at Liberty gym in Gedling Street for the launch this afternoon.

"I wanted to back this campaign because CPOs really do a fantastic job," said Froch. "They are very close to the community and get to know people who are in the area.

"My friend is a CPO in Gedling and he loves it. I often see him talking to shop owners and people in the area to keep them informed."

The scheme enables local people to be trained by Notts Police and Nottingham City Council to become auxiliary community protection officers that work to tackle environmental crime and anti-social behaviour.
