Newsagent in intensive care after robbery

A NEWSAGENT is in intensive care after he was injured during a robbery by two youths in his shop.

Geoff Hopkins, 64, was pushed over during the raid at G&G Hopkins in Carey Road, Bulwell.

Mr Hopkins declined hospital treatment but his condition deteriorated during the day. He was taken to the QMC for emergency surgery for a head injury last night and is now in intensive care.

Police spent yesterday searching the shop for clues, and it was still cordoned off this morning as a police officer stood guard.

Motorists driving near the shop this morning were also stopped by officers hunting for witnesses. A police spokesman said: "This was a nasty attack and we need to find these people straight away."

The shop's till was found outside the Carberry Dental Practice in Ragdale Road, Bulwell, later in the morning.

Practice manager Betty Temple said she found it when she arrived at work. It contained loose change and a receipt, which showed the name of the newsagents'. "I am worried about him, I used to be a newsagent in Alfreton Road and we had many of those situations years ago," she said.

Police want anyone who was in Carey Road or Ragdale Road at the time of the incident, between 6am and 6.30am yesterday, to call Notts Police on 0115 844 4906.
