Mills eyeing more silverware with Stags

GARY Mills insists joining Mansfield Town can help him secure a fifth winners' medal of his senior career.

The 28-year-old midfielder has already won the Blue Square North title with Kettering, the Blue Square Premier and League Two titles with Rushden as well as the FA Trophy with Stevenage.

Now Mills is targeting more silverware – and believes the Stags are the right club to help him do it.

"It was a great day to win at Wembley with Stevenage at the end of the season and one I will never forget," he said.

"But at the same time, that is now in the past and all my concentration is on doing well for Mansfield.

"I have been fortunate to have quite a bit of success and I want to carry that on.

"I wanted to go to a club where they can move forward, not just survive and stand still, and I believe I have done that by coming here."

Although on the subs' bench for Stevenage's clash with Mansfield on the final day of last season, Mills was impressed by what he saw from the Stags, who won 2-1.

Mills said: "At Stevenage we were flying and we lost just once in about 30 games and as a team, confidence was high.

"But then we came to Mansfield and they beat us, which shows what a good team they are.

"There were one or two in the dressing room after that game saying they fancied Mansfield to do well in the new season.

"Then when I came to meet the gaffer (David Holdsworth), I was very impressed by his professionalism, the way the club is run and their ambition to move forward."

Mills will join Jonathan D'Laryea and Matt Somner in competing for slots in central midfield.

"There are some great midfielders at the club and no-one has a right to be in the starting line-up," he said.

"As a player, you have to set your standards high and make sure you are ready for the games every week."
