VIDEO: This Is Live - Tom For Idea

Friday, December 04, 2009, 10:00

NEXT up on the Stealth sofa chatting to Zoe Kirk is Tom For Idea. Having not been together very long, they say it's difficult for them to clearly define their sound, so it's currently a free-flowing genre, as they get used to each other's writing styles.

After living together at university and casually jamming in their free time, they discovered a musical mutuality they could work with.

Watch them chatting to Zoe and performing an acoustic version of their song The Wire:

And you are?

Jack and Dave (guitar, keyboard, vocals), Dan (bass, vocals), Tiff (drums).

History?

Although Dave's played solo for a while now, we're just getting started as a band. We've always played instruments but we've only been playing together for the last six months, gigging and recording. We were brought together by a love for similar artists and Um Bongo. We thought it was about time.

Describe your music and influences.

If we could, we'd amalgamate the vocal stylings, bass lines and beats of Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Gorillaz and Hot Chip (just to name a few). However, we haven't settled on a sound yet so it's hard to say. We like harmonic vocals and catchy beats.

What are the day jobs?

We don't have any, we're all students.

Claims to fame?

Who needs claims? We'll be hitting the real thing soon enough. Although my mate once met a guy who knows someone whose mate met David Bowie. It's a small world.

Which other Notts bands do you rate?

Highness Sound System is our fave, as regulars to their monthly slot at The Bodega Social Club.

Music for sale?
