THE Single Equality Bill, submitted to Parliament at the end of April should make the rules on breastfeeding in public areas less confusing.

The Bill will make it clear it is unlawful to force breastfeeding mothers and their babies out of places like coffee shops, shops, public galleries, public transport and restaurants. The National Childbirth Trust, along with other organisations, has been campaigning for over ten years for breastfeeding mothers to be legally protected from discrimination.

The Bill will enable mothers to breastfeed their baby in public places, free from the potential of having the owner ask them to stop.

“At last common sense prevails, most mothers use discretion when feeding so its good for them to know they are within the law.”
