Three illegal immigrants caught in city nail bar
THREE illegal immigrants who were working at a city nail bar have been caught by the UK Border Agency.
Officials swooped in to New York Nails in Upper Parliament Street at about 10.25am on May 26.
They found three Vietnamese nationals – two women, aged 22 and 47, and a 21-year-old man – who were working at the business despite being failed asylum seekers.
New York Nails was issued with an on-the-spot penalty notice for employing foreign nationals and could now face a fine of up to £30,000.
The trio were temporarily released on immigration bail while the UK Border Agency took steps to remove them.
Phil Dyer, UK Border Agency East Midlands assistant director, said: "We will continue to target those employers who refuse to obey the rules.
"Those who employ foreign nationals who do not have the right to work in the UK will be visited and have enforcement action taken.
"Rogue employers should be warned that they face heavy fines and could end up in jail."
To avoid the £30,000 fine, New York Nails must prove it carried out correct pre-employment checks.
