Wright gets Ilkeston off to winning start

ILKESTON Ladies started their season in the Notts LTA Summer League with a hard-fought win in Division One against West Bridgford A.

County captain Sarah Wright and Julie Griffiths won five sets and were backed up by Sarah Usher and Jackie Thompson with 4½ sets.

Hannah Murray and Lisa Knowles provided the most resistance for West Bridgford with 4½ sets.

Mansfield march on in Division Two with their third consecutive win as they beat Southwell. Ann Brown and Paula Coleman were in dominant form, winning six sets for the loss of only three games.

Following two defeats, Burton Joyce got their first win in Division Three against The Park.

Fourteen-year-old Catherine Wiggins made her debut, and the experienced Ruth Rae provided additional strength, winning four sets with Heather Ankers.

Magdala A made it three out of four wins when they beat Musters A to move to the top of the table.

In Division 4A, West Bridgford B just edged past Newark A, with Valerie Kirkham and Viola Ziessow winning 4½ sets.

In the Mixed First Division, Magdala won their second match of the season with a comfortable win against West Bridgford A, with Paul Lockwood and Mandy Mellors winning 4½ sets.

Musters opened their season with an away win at Wood- thorpe, where Chris Dexter and Caroline Milns won five sets.

Ewan Farr and Sue Pannell won 3½ sets for Woodthorpe.

Woodthorpe A won their first match of the season after two defeats, with an away victory at Boots in Division Two. Gary Bearman and Carol Whittington won five sets, with Alex Hunt and Dawn Cartledge winning four sets for Boots.

In Division Three, the brother and sister pairing of Chris and Rebecca Wood of Sutton-in-Ashfield, helped to carry their team through to beat Keyworth, with six sets for the loss of only six games.
