White-hot stuff as records tumble at in-form Jansons
There was a remarkable six weights over the ton – a new club record – and also a new lake record for a five-hour match.
There was a stunning average of 74lbs for the 19 members who fished.
Anthony White, on peg 27, topped the field, with a magnificent 174lbs 13oz of carp up to 2lbs.
Using paste, White fished on the deck, both to his left and right, two pole sections out.
Off the form peg of the moment, peg 9, Gary Smith ended up with 130lbs 6oz, fishing similar to Anthony, to end up second. Paul Nightingale was only three fish adrift, finishing third with 125lbs 9oz, ahead of Neil Culham who took fourth spot, with 119lbs 8oz.
Bill Belchin and Chris Shaw also topped 100lbs, catching 117lbs 1oz and 101lbs 9oz respectively.
ROF's first visit to Jansons also paid off handsomely, with the venue again on top form while Tim Turner fished paste close to the near bank and managed to take 125lb 3oz to the weigh net for first place.
John Hinchcliff finished just short in second with 118lb 4oz including a nice net of ide in his catch with Rob Marlow putting another ton on the scales to record 102lb 10oz and third place.
The Long Eaton Federation Summer League got off to a good start on the Erewash Canal above Dockholme Lock. The overcast conditions encouraged some of the better fish to feed with good bream, tench and chub being caught – and a number of large fish, including double-figure carp, being hooked and lost.
Dave Clayton took the lead, from a peg opposite the allotments, with five good bream and a few small fish for a weight of 15lb 14oz. The bulk was taken on worm.
Steve Posiak drew the first peg below Sandiacre Lock and used caster to catch three good chub which, together with a few small fish, gave him second place with a weight of 8lb 9oz.
A bonus bream of about 2lb together with four decent perch boosted Alan Wright's net of squatt-caught small fish to 7lb 14 oz 8drms for third place.
The League will continue for a further five Saturdays and the top 20 anglers (best three results to count) will fish the final on August 8 which will have up to £300 added prize money. More information from Alan Wright on 0115 9728041.
Meadowlands again produced a good day's fishing for Acorn AC, averaging more than 40lb an angler.
Drawing peg 17, Alan Kent fished the pellet waggler then switched to the candle to take a net of all-carp to the scales, in doing so along with Dave Meakin breaking the 100lb-mark. Galvin Revill won the elbow, John Bartlam missed the golden peg.
Matchmen AC found the going tough on Avon at Makins with 11 of the 17 anglers failing to catch double figures.
Scott Bradshaw took his first win with the club on peg 1 with 29-6 of carp and barbel to 6lb. He caught on meat tight to the island and down in the margins late on.
Second place went to John Morgan on peg 8 with 25-4 of carp to 6lb. He only caught eight fish, all taken from the margins on paste but also lost a few bigger ones.
Connor Clark, on peg 5, was third with 25-2. He caught nine carp an caster tight across to the island but lost just as many.
Phil Hunt, using a pellet meat and bomb caught carp up to 6lb on Crown Inn's visit to Beechwood. Despite losing a number of fish he weighed 54lb 1oz for a comfortable win.
And Hunt was the man to beat again as he made it back-to-back victories in the club's mini Open at Brooksby.
Despite losing several fish – including one large fish which pulled his rod into the lake but which he managed to retrieve – he continued fishing with a bagging waggler with pellet into eight feet of water. He finished with six carp in lump proportions to 11lb 4oz to finish with 56lb 15oz.
Paul Pincott had two carp to finish second with 16lb 5oz. Alan Lucas came third with a nice net of roach on maggot to finish with 12lb 5oz.
