Match report: Notts County 0 Wycombe 2

NOTTS County conceded two second half goals to lose 2-0 to League Two leaders Wycombe Wanderers at Meadow Lane tonight.

Striker Matt Harrold and Lewwis Spence both struck for the Chairboys to inflict a fifth league defeat in six games on Ian McParland's side.

Both sides had early chances in the first half.

Jonathan Forte lifted an effort over the crossbar from inside the penalty area after latching onto a quick through ball from Gavin Strachan and Wycombe's Angelo Balanta saw a close-range shot blocked by Jamie Clapham.

The Magpies won a free-kick minutes later that fell to Jamie Forrester in the box but he side-footed wide at the far post.

Forrester then tested visitors' keeper Scott Shearer with a diving header from Lewis Neal's flag-kick.

Balanta continued to look dangerous and he unleashed a powerful effort at goal from the edge of the box that John Thompson blocked away.

Mike Edwards then headed straight at Shearer from Neal's corner on 24 minutes, after rising above his marker ten yards out.

The visitors broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second half when Balanta went past Clapham inside the box on the left and pulled a cross back across the face of goal for Harrold to fire past Russell Hoult from point-blank range.

Franck Moussa then forced Hoult into a good save low down to his right with a low drive from 20 yards minutes later.

Notts struggled to stage a fight-back and fell 2-0 behind on 65 minutes when Spence hit an unstoppable effort past Hoult into the top corner from a short free-kick 25 yards out.

Spencer Weir-Daley replaced Forrester on 71 minutes and injected some pace into the Magpies' attack but it was the visitors who looked likely to extend their lead, with Spence rifling straight at Hoult.

Forte tested Shearer on 81 minutes but could not add to his tally of four goals in two games as Notts slipped to their third successive home league defeat.
