McParland steps up interest in international midfielder
The Magpies registered another huge home win, thrashing Northampton Town 5-2 on Saturday, taking their tally of goals to 14 at Meadow Lane already this season.
But the Notts boss has confirmed he is interested in the 28-year-old, who is a free agent after leaving Championship club Coventry City at the end of last season.
The Maltese international has been approached by a host of clubs in England, including Sheffield United, Leeds United and Charlton Athletic.
And he has reportedly turned down contract offers from Turkish side Ankaragucu and Greek outfit Larissa.
McParland said: "I know he's available and he would be a good addition to our squad, but let's wait and see."
Asked if Notts have made an offer to Mifsud, who ended last season on loan at Barnsley, McParland said 'no' with a broad smile on his face.
The Scot was also smiling about his side's dramatic win against Northampton which extended their unbeaten home run in League Two to four games.
Leading scorer Lee Hughes hit his second hat-trick of the season to take his tally on to seven – but McParland raved about two-goal Matt Ritchie, who was given his full league debut against the Cobblers after a substitute appearance against Burton Albion.
"Matt Ritchie is the size of a shirt button but he got in at the far post and bravely headed his first. He gets himself in position to score goals," he added.
"If he carries on like that, I'll be quite happy to be honest. If he gets better that's even better.
"His performance had everything, he's a good footballer. Long may he keep scoring goals."
McParland spent the summer chasing the 19-year-old Portsmouth winger.
"I stuck with it because I know what he can do," he said.
"He'll have his highs and lows because he's still learning the game. But I'm sure he's got a bright future in the game and hopefully it will be with Notts County and me."
