Swine flu phone line to close

Monday, February 08, 2010, 11:49

A PHONE line for people in Notts who think they may have swine flu is to close on Thursday.

The National Pandemic Flu Service was set up last year to give people with flu-like symptoms a telephone assessment for swine flu.

The phone line and website are now being stopped after the number of H1N1 virus cases dropped.

People with flu-like symptoms should now phone their GP practice for an assessment.

They will still be able to send a friend to pick up Tamiflu from collection points in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Balderton, Stapleford and Boots in the Victoria Centre.

The swine flu information line, featuring a number of recorded messages, will continue to operate on 0800 1513513.

Dr Chris Kenny, Director of Public Health for NHS Notts County, said protecting vulnerable groups was "still a priority".

He said: "The vaccination programme remains a vital element of our response to swine flu and protecting vulnerable groups is still a priority.

"Whilst it is good news that the overall current trend of the pandemic is downwards, we still cannot be complacent.

"We encourage all parents to take up the offer of vaccination for their children when invited.

"We would like to thank everyone for using the National Pandemic Service responsibly."
