MORE than half of all Anti-social Behaviour Orders (Asbos) have been breached in Notts, according to new figures.

The Home Office has today published details of the number of Asbo orders issued up to 2008.

In Notts, 54% of Asbos have been breached since figures began to be recorded in 2000.

The national average is 55%.

Home Secretary Theresa May has said it is "time to move beyond the Asbo" and has launched a review of their effectiveness.

She said it was time to "stop tolerating" anti-social behaviour.

“The ASBO was like the PCSO a nice idea on paper..cheap n not so cheerful.

The problems within the legal system especially in Norttingham are the judges/magistrates seem unaware of the flaws in the ASBO as it stands. That a slap on the wrist won't ever work, as the next step up is to slap the other wrist.

The judiciary are out of touch in an ivory tower by and large....is that a lack of understanding or pig headedness??

As for a solution? The current Govt want to slash and burn budgets and the new ACC here wants more Specials and PCSO's. Perhaps ou new ACC should go into bat for a revised budget for Notts as slashing frontline coppers will only lead to increased crime and the already demoralised troops feeling even worse..too hard ACC??????

If you want it done on a budget and cheeply (sic) then sure give out more ASBO's and then have some jumped up lackey issue a report saying 'oh the ASBO's don't work'

oh really Gracie, when your lot were in opposition what was your policy on law an order??? the real thing not the US tv show...”

“ASBOs were just a way to arrest a habitual criminal before waiting for them to actually do something.
Why not print the average punishment given by the courts for breaching an ASBO to see the 'effectiveness'.”

“ASBO's WERE A WAY FORWARD WITH THE ISSUE BUT UNLESS THE JUDICIARY GIVE OUT THE STRONGEST PENALTIES FOR BREACHING THEM THEY BECOME AS MUCH USE AS AN ASHTRAY ON A MOTORBIKE”
