SELECTADISC has seen some times. Here are just a few of the important dates in the life of an institution.

1966 – Brian Selby opens Selectadisc ... as a stall in Mansfield market.

1969 – Selectadisc gets its first permanent home, a small shop in Arkwright Street, The Meadows.

1980 – After leaving Arkwright Street during The Meadows regeneration of the 1970s and spending time in several city centre locations, Selectadisc moved into its current location in Market Street

1985 – Within months of each other, Billy Bragg and The Clash play Selectadisc to benefit striking miners. The Clash gig comes about when Selectadisc's Jim Cooke bumps into Joe Strummer in a club and asks if he can play the following day in the shop. It turns into an acoustic show with Strummer standing on the counter. Afterwards, they go for pints at the Newshouse. Later that night the band wind up busking outside the Garage club, owned by Selectadisc.

Bragg said of his gig: "I've done lots of daft things in the past but never playing on a record store counter the day after appearing on Top of the Pops."

1986 – Prior to a Rock City gig, The Ramones turn up.

1991 – Billy Bragg returns to Selectadisc to sign autographs for fans before a Rock City gig.

More recently The Kooks (right) and Americans the Magic Numbers play Selectadisc.
