Will foxhunting make a return?

FOR many readers, foxhunting was perceived to be a country activity used in controlling that childhood menace Reynard the Fox. However the sight of a hunt chasing the urban fox through the inner city streets of Nottingham was not a sight I can recall.

Having a long association with what are now areas of Gedling borough, I cannot remember seeing a foxhunt.

In some areas of Rushcliffe, foxhunting with horses was not an uncommon sight but foxhunting events were usually encountered in nearby Leicestershire.

A more common practice used locally was lamping, where high-powered lamps were used, lighting the eyes of the victim, which was then shot at.

Local farmer Mark Spencer supports a badger cull, so under a new government we might see widespread badger culls and foxhunting in Nottinghamshire.

“foxhunting won't be legalised in this parliament because the tories do not have a majority and the Lib Dems wouldn't vote in favour”

“James, who cares??.. Well I do, since animals don"t get to vote, so MP"s and conservationists have to speak up for them. The planet is dying through imbalance of a natural order. Perhaps if we protected the green belt better the foxes would not feel the necessity to move into urban areas. Fox hunting is anachronistic, because it is a cruel practice which wears the fox down; simply an exhausting and bloody death, which is unacceptable in 2010, and should remain so. We have just lost a good MP in Broxtowe who had a damned good say on animal welfare issues. Best wishes any way,

“There's a different between culling and having a bunch off toff's on horses, with dogs chasing 1 fox for a bit of fun.

    Keep foxhunting banned!”
