Forest keeper Turner is spot-kick saviour

Monday, April 06, 2009, 08:00

JAMAL Campbell-Ryce came out on top in the argument with teammate Andranik Teymourian about who should take Barnsley's penalty.

And Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Iain Turner was delighted as he had studied where the winger usually puts his spot kicks.

Campbell-Ryce had already given the Tykes a 1-0 lead when Iranian Teymourian was felled by Wes Morgan in the box.

After winning the penalty, he wanted to take it despite not being the regular penalty-taker.

But after calming down following a few words, he apologised to Campbell-Ryce and gave him his blessing to double the advantage.

There was twist as Turner guessed correctly, diving to his left to save the kick before Robert Earnshaw made Barnsley pay by scoring to secure a 1-1 draw.

Turner said: "It is always nice to get a penalty save. Goalkeepers are always underdogs with them but I watched a few videos of him so I kind of knew what he was going to do.

"It was a strange one [Teymourian's strop] but luckily it was the penalty-taker I knew so I got a bit of luck. Unfortunately we did not get the three points.

"We had a few chances and we probably should have won but that is football."
