Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society are holding monthly Open Evenings throughout autumn and winter at Sherwood Observatory, Coxmoor Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield, NG17 5LF.

Adults and over 16s £3.50; under 16s £1.00 (but must be accompanied by an adult). Pre-booking is not required.
Gate opens at 6.45 pm.
Each evening there is a short presentation on a different astronomy topic beginning at 7.00pm in our lecture room and repeated throughout the evening.
Many other activities, such as:
View the Moon, visible planets and other treasures of the night sky through the Society’s large telescope in our Observatory dome and a range of smaller telescopes (weather permitting).
An introduction to finding your way around the night sky with the naked eye and binoculars (feel free to bring your own binoculars along) (weather permitting).
Short video presentations on astronomy topics.
Displays on the solar system and beyond, astrophotography, and the society.
Demonstration of meteor detection by radio astronomy.
Opportunities to ask questions about astronomy.
Please wear warm clothing.
There is wheelchair access to the ground floor and a disabled toilet.
Limited parking is available.
Smoking is not permitted on site during the event.
Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society is a non-profit making charity (reg. no. 518183), promoting and advancing public education in the science of astronomy. All proceeds from these events will be used to maintain and improve the Observatory buildings and astronomy equipment.
