Festivals

Splendour give you a taste for live music in the great outdoors? Here are some of the UK's upcoming festivals...

CAMP BESTIVAL (July 24th-26th)

The yin to Bestival's big stage yan, Dorset's Camp Bestival serves as a warm-up to its Isle of Wight counterpart. As the winner of the Best New Festival category at last year's UK Festival Awards, the omens are good for the future. PJ Harvey and Mercury Rev are likely highlights. Returns only, campbestival.co.uk

TRUCK (July 25th-26th)

Oxford's Truck embodies the festival spirit perhaps better than most; a family-run weekend, it provides locally sourced food and has, in 2008 alone, raised £50,000 for good causes. All of this isn't at the expense of great acts, and Ash and local-boys-done-good Supergrass head this year's bill. £70, thisistruck.com

Y NOT FESTIVAL (July 31-August 2)

An intimate three-dayer in the heart of the Peak District near Matlock in the village of Pikehall. An adult ticket for the whole weekend is £42, under 10's are free and a day ticket from £17. Noah and the Whale and Ashby based indie band The Young Knives headline the main stage along with Johnny Foreigner and Nine Black Alps. Nottingham's Rebel Soul Collective won the chance to open the main stage in a battle of the bands. International Beat Box world champion Beardyman headlines the acoustic stage Friday night with Johnny Flynn topping the bill on Saturday. Nottingham's Sam Beeton will close the acoustic stage on Sunday. Friday night is a neon paint UV Party in the dance tent and Saturday is fancy dress with a website forum deciding the theme.

SONISPHERE (August 1st and 2nd)

A new addition to the heavier end of the festival spectrum, Sonisphere's travelling festival takes over Hertfordshire's Knebworth House for the first weekend of August. Metallica and Linkin Park are sure highlights, and the smaller stages boast Killing Joke and Mastodon amongst others. A staggered line-up means no nasty clashes, too. £157.50, sonispherefestivals.com
