Scheme to get parents back to work

Saturday, October 25, 2008, 13:55

NOTTINGHAM has been chosen for a Government pilot scheme aimed at helping the parents of children in poverty get into work.

Ten local authorities across the country have been selected for the scheme, which will run in children's centres from January 2009.

Jobcentre Plus personal advisers, based at the centres, will help parents access work-focused services.

As well as testing the impact of putting a full-time Jobcentre Plus adviser into children's centres, the pilot will also look at what other support may help parents to move into employment.

The scheme will complement the existing initiative of providing tax credits advice through children's centres, which is being expanded.
