“The EP are like the BBC and will censor or completely ignore news stories involving members of certain communities.”

It's currently on page 2 of the news pages. Not that difficult to find.”

“I wonder why the story is only a reaction to the court case, not the court case itself - it wasn't in the court news and, as I said he was sentenced on Friday last week but the Post didn't put it on the website (and still hasn't).”

“Mam_Tor, I imagine the NP thought that giving the reaction of a family member made a far better story than just a bare statement of the sentence handed down. It made it a much more human story so I think your complaint is not justified.”

“BLawrenson, there was more to this case than just the lenient sentence handed down. More a case of the Islamic teaching that this young Muslim man had which made him see women as worthless.

“Lesta that had already come out in the original Court case during mitigation and was covered by the NP at the time as it also was in the Nationals. The NP published a topical slant on the case so that is the answer to what Mam Tor posted. If you want to start a discussion about the teachings of Islam then post it as a new topic on the forum but don't accuse the NP of censorship when they did publish factual reports. I will criticise when they are wrong but this time I believe they acted in a reasonable and responsible manner.”

“If any details came out before they weren't published online, were they restricted to print editions only? Can you remember which print editions you read it in? 'NP and Nationals' makes it sounds like you must have read it in several newspapers.

    BTW I didn't say I was complaining.

I wonder if there has been a shift in editiorial policy now that ownership has been transfered?”

“Sorry Mam-Tor I should have been more specific but I didn't want to call down the wrath of other posters by saying that it was in the Daily Mail and the Sun, print and on-line. I picked this up from Google. As the Daily Mail are the new owners of the NP I think that clears your thought of editorial policy of censorship. I understand it was also carried in the Telegraph. I really must check and see if the Guardian carried the story. There is certainly considerable internet coverage but the fact that a famous cricketer has a similar name presents a bit of a search problem.”

“The Forum appears to have been dropped by the NP as it doesn't feature in the menu.”
