NOTTINGHAM'S Planet Carp have come to the rescue of carp-mad local firefighters Adam Wall and Ian Oldham, who are taking part in the Forces Carp Classic, at Abbey Lakes in France, in October.

"The event takes place every year for the Army, Navy, RAF, ambulance, police and fire service," said Wall.

"We will be representing the Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue service as a pairs team.

"We are very grateful to Planet Carp, who have offered to help us out with clothing and tackle. They have also put us in touch with a bait company that will be helping us out with bait."

Planet Carp owner Richard McDonagh, who opened the shop on Alfreton Road over two years ago, is happy to sponsor the pair. "I used to play football with Ian at Sandiacre years ago," he said. "I was a goalkeeper. I used to leap like a salmon."
