Strachan keen to face Kettering
THE Magpies need to be mentally stronger, according to Gavin Strachan.
The midfielder returned to the side after five weeks out with a hamstring injury in last night's defeat to Wycombe.
And, while he was pleased with their first-half display, he felt Notts crumbled after conceding just two minutes into the second half.
He said: "We shot ourselves in the foot again.
"We were saying during the break we had to start the second half well and within a couple of minutes we were a goal down against a team who don't concede many goals.
"There was no way back after they scored second goal."
The Magpies have staged some memorable comebacks already this season – against Exeter, Aldershot and Gillingham.
Strachan insists they need to rediscover that fighting spirit, after five defeats in six league games.
"We need to be mentally stronger as a unit when things aren't going our way, pull together and dig in.
"Anything is an improvement on the weekend but it's still not good enough. We want to be winning games. We want to be in the top half of the table but we're not."
Strachan hopes he can help the club rise up the table now he is fit again – and beat non-league Kettering in the FA Cup second round on Sunday.
"I said to the manager after Saturday if he needed me I would play," he said.
"I am pleased to get through 90 minutes. I would have been surprised to get through 70 minutes before the start of the game. It was a struggle, especially up against a team that keep the ball well.
"Hopefully I can build on it and help us get a win on Sunday."
Peter Taylor, meanwhile, was delighted to see his side extend their unbeaten run at the top of League Two.
He admitted he feared a backlash against the Magpies, following their heavy defeat at Dagenham, but felt his side scored two good goals in the second half.
He said: "I thought it was a very good display, because it's not an easy place to come.
"They got beat 6-1 on Saturday and they are going to rebound somewhere and we had to make sure it wasn't against us.
"I thought we were patient with the ball, we had a very good chance early in the game but we didn't take it.
"We scored two very good goals which made it tough for them to come back. It opened the game up and we could have got more."

“Hi,
I'm a really well-known expert in occult themes here in Brazil, recognized even by eclesiastic authorities, with a great experience with exorcisms and summoning ghosts. In youtube.com there's an episode of a TV show in which I was called by a TV channel(RBS TV, a local branch of Rede Globo) to maintain contact with the ghosts of a spooked island called Anhatomirim ( "Litlle Devil's Island", in native language). To see it, just type "fantasmas maragatos" in the search slot. The soul detective with a moustache it's me... So, I'm very interested in cast away those Clifton Hall's ghosts: just to show my spiritual powers. I don't know the ghost hunters that were called to try it, but I can assure you that here in Brazil we have our own ways to deal with this. If you want to contact me, just write at this e.mail adress, or call me at the phone 55051 91688190, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. I will be very glad to help you: for the money, for the show, or just for fun... If the ghosts are a problem, I'm the solution you need.
P.S.: I talk in English like this, and Spanish very well.
Thanks,
Antonio Augusto”

“I am disappointed to have to agree with the scam element in these posts. It does make sense, looking at the bloated, smug aspect of the erstwhile owner. However, he could have genuine claims. Look at the way he's made his money. Conscience? What conscience? Paranoia -haunted by his unbridled greed, more like.”
