Fire crews to fight 'blaze' at Wollaton Hall

Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 09:21

FIRE crews were due to stop a blaze destroying Wollaton Hall today as part of a training exercise.

Crews were taking part in the drill to test plans to prevent large fires from spreading inside the building.

As part of the exercise firefighters were due to use pumps to take water from the mains supply on Middleton Boulevard and from the lake near the hall.

Crew manager Jon Howard, who organised the drill, said: "It is vital that we test and update our procedures for dealing with incidents at large buildings. A good knowledge of local risks is an important aspect of a firefighter's role and regular training is vital to ensure firefighters are fully competent in this diverse role."

The exercise was taking place from 9am until 1pm today.
