A HORSE had to be rescued by 12 firemen after getting stuck in a stream.

The animal was found in water off Vere Avenue in Sutton-in-Ashfield at around 8.30am this morning.

Fire crews from Ashfield and Mansfield were called to the scene by a passer-by who was concerned about the animal.

Steve Mee, watch manager at Sutton-in-Ashfield fire station, said: "It was just sitting in the stream and could not move.

"We used hoses to wrap round it and pull it out.

"It was hypothermic so we wrapped it in blankets when we got it out and it was looked over by a vet."

The horse is expected to make a full recovery.
