Call for conservation area in Wollaton
A WOMAN is calling for part of Wollaton to be turned into a conservation area to prevent more building work being done in her neighbourhood.
Brenda Barber is unhappy about an extension being built on a bungalow behind her home, saying it spoils the estate, which consists mainly of one-storey homes.
Although the extension does not breach planning regulations, she wants a conservation area to be set up to stop such work in the future.
"This is an estate of bungalows and suddenly we are faced with this overlooking us," she said.
"If we have a conservation area here then special planning permission would have to be gained before any work can be done."
The extension is being built on the bungalow in Middleton Boulevard, Wollaton.
Planning laws state permission isn't needed for extensions less than 40 cubic square metres. But in conservation areas, special permission must be gained.
"We have been seeking consultation for some time now to get a conservation area set up," said Mrs Barber, of Longore Square.
"We were told there would be a consultation late last year and nothing has happened. The bungalow next door had an extension done to it. A petition with 300 signatures was handed to the council, but it went ahead. Now this one is going ahead, too, and there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it."
A spokesman for developer RV Properties stressed all the work was legal.
"We're putting in dormer windows on the front of the property as part of a loft conversion," he said. "This house had an asbestos roof before that.
"We hope to bring money to the area through this development and only one local shop owner has objected."
Other properties in the area had similar conversions or dormer windows.
An open day is being held on August 30 from noon until 3pm when people can discuss concerns.
Wollaton councillor Georgina Culley is supporting the residents' campaign.
"I can see why they are not happy and we want to be able to set up a conservation area to prevent this in the future," she said.
"This has always been an estate of bungalows, which is why people move here."
A city council spokesman said it would look into the possibility of setting up a conservation area, adding it would go before a planning committee on August 18.

“i really wish you would get your facts right mark instead of being well read phone the planning office on 9155555 and ask for development control and ask them if
a (all of sutton passeys crescent is covered)
the reason this proposal was called sutton passeys is beyond me i can assure you only one side is covered they will verify this
b (that i can change roof coverings to that of black slate)
this is why i don't approve of the councils argument as this was in their notes that they do not approve of slate roofs yet this is ok to do still
the main reason this was passed unanimously was due to the argument that a councillor lives on the excluded part of sutton passeys and that the area has a very village feel
believe me mark one thing i am not is a liar
i will do what i am permitted to as long as i am permitted to within my working life and whilst i own properties
this law wasn't passed because mark doesn't like black slate roofs and students
come on mark stop trying to look at this as though you have to win this debate the only ones to win are ncc
please finally realise we would like your suggestions not a game of words and dislikes
the parking issues were addressed and will continue to be
the property on the corner will be receiving attention as you suggested
it appears you have no intention of changing your views of me or my properties all be it you never even stepped inside one
how can you make an intelligent opinion without a full viewing
i invited you to an open day
i even offered you an earlier viewing due to holidays
what more can i do
i can assure you about the development control meeting, we was there you wasn't
if you search in google for rv properties it comes up with our business address i don't suppose you will get an award for finding it out so LATE
i am not interested in an argument merely a damage limitation exercise
anyway what are you writing to me for since you insisted i think monkey was the word
please mark continue suggesting not slating”

“To RV properties,
One final comment to correct inaccuracies in your parting statement. T
he sutton passeys crescent conservation area was passed last week so tell me why would this exclude the road in the title of the conservation area as you suggest?
Having read the planning committee report it is clear sutton passeys crescent is included in the conservation area.
As is the intention to retain family properties and resist application for change of use of properties from family to multiple occupancy.
I also not that the council disapproved of slate roofs see photograph 6 on the planning notes as not in keeping with character of the area along with removal of hedges and trees on existing properties.
So clearly you cannot continue to develop properties in the area as you have before.”

“David,
I have been in private email conversations with the developer and the timing of your posts and the timing of his emails to me especially given the similiar tone of the emails led me to believe that you were one and the same. I do not believe in coincedence.
Perhaps all the associates of the developer have commented on here eg customers like M & S roofing, hence the supporter that is entirely possible in this day and age of email. it is worth noting that only 10 or so people have commented on here. it pales in significant to 300 signatures on the petition would you not agree.
Judging my the developers boasts, his work appears to be able to continue though I am waiting for the official word on this before believing his statements.
I shall be retiring from this debate now but the fight to stop wollaton becoming abother lenton goes on.”

“mark i used to abode on hawton crescent i will not disclose the number however if you give me your e mail i will give you the house number and any neighbour you wish to ask will verify this
please make sure you know all facts before making out everone here is somehow attached to rv properties
i was not the first to be questioned
if we all were attached to rv properties it would make them very popular in that area surely contrary to your statements”
