Fire kills 9,000 chickens
ABOUT 9,000 chickens are believed to have died at a fire in Stragglethorpe this morning.
The fire started at about 5.30am at a barn in Cotgrave Road.

The barn housed approximately 32,000 chickens.
A spokesperson at West Bridgford fire station said the rest of the chickens were now being checked by vets and DEFRA.
He said about 30% of the barn was severely damaged by the fire.
A fire investigation has been carried out into the cause of the blaze and this is believed to have been accidental, possibly caused by an electrical fault.
At its height, six crews battled the fire, which took about two-and-a-half hours to extinguish.
The cause of a flat fire in New Basford was also due to be investigated today.
The fire started at about 11pm yesterday at the flat in Monsall Street. in New Basford No one was injured.
