MY first association with West Bridgford stems back to the early 1980s. I was studying for my degree in surveying and lived in a student house on Trent Boulevard, in Lady Bay. The West Bridgford of the 1980s seems a far cry from that of today.

Granted, it boasted a Test standard cricket ground and an awesome football team but as an area to live in it was desirable but rather dull! If you wanted any night life or a decent restaurant, a trip over the River Trent was required.

However, a more recent attraction of the area is the mini explosion of the cafe and restaurant "society".

On or close to Central Avenue/Gordon Road you can enjoy a frothy coffee in any number of establishments and sample cuisine from India, China, Canton, Italy, Spain and so the list goes on. In the past it was "bread and lard island"; nowadays, as one wag observed, it's more "ciabatta and tapenade"!
