Work to beat bad smells at Dorket Head tip in Arnold is delayed by snow and icy weather
IMPROVEMENTS at a landfill site in Arnold have been delayed by the cold weather.
FCC Environment, which runs Dorket Head, in Arnold, was told by the Environment Agency, which monitors the site, to install a temporary plastic cap by the end of January to combat smells.

Residents complained about gassy smells, with a total of 348 protests received by the agency in December alone.
The agency told FCC Environment to install the cap, roughly the size of a football pitch, after a meeting with councillors and MP for Gedling, Vernon Coaker. It said that if the cap failed to reduce the smell, the agency would carry out an odour assessment and will consider taking action if they haven't.

However, it has now said FCC had not finished the work, because the recent snow and ice meant it could not physically get up the slope to finish off.
FCC said it was continuously improving the site to tackle the problem.

“Seriously, has anyone looked at the export potential of this dump? People in the third world are crying out for good quality Western rubbish to pick over, and we could kill two birds with one stone.
