Woodcock takes title
LOCAL tackle dealer Gerry Woodcock clinched the Jansons Winter League title after finishing second in his section in the final match.
Paul Dexter, second in his section, had to settle for runners-up spot. He finished level on points with Woodcock, but lost out on weight – 222lb 7oz to 174lb 3oz over the four matches. Scott Robinson finished third overall in the league, with Mark Liwoshko fourth on weight.
Steve Baker won the final match with 55-1, fishing maggot across to the sedges, while Ian Coates (Matchman Bulwell) fished bread to the overhanging sedges for 50-11.
Lee Smith deservedly won the Winter League at Rycroft. He totalled 12 points (338lbs 8oz) to finish well clear of Wayne Seewards 19pts (298-10), Norman Powers 23pts (229-5), Chris Pavlou 25pts (244-13), Gaz Heald 27pts (204-10) and Barry Walters 33pts (177-6). Seewards was top rod in the final round with 45-2 off Moat. Heald was best on Canal with 37-10.
Dave Brown topped Saturday's Open on Clover with 57-2 at peg 12. Seewards was second with 38-4.
