A MAN raped and poured boiling water on a woman he held prisoner in his home, a court heard.

Paulo Marquis locked the woman in a cupboard with a metal bar across so she could not escape.

He raped her, kept her under surveillance with a video camera and dropped scalding water on her shoulder leaving a nasty burn.

A witness told Nottingham Crown Court that the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, managed to escape and turned up at his home "petrified" and covered in bruises.

He said: "She told me a whole list of things; being locked in a cupboard, her feet being tied."

Another witness said she was told by the woman that Marquis held her prisoner. "She wouldn't stop crying," said the witness.

A health worker who saw the victim described her as a "scared, skinned rabbit".

Marquis was found guilty of one rape, assault causing actual bodily harm, common assault and false imprisonment. He was cleared on two further charges of rape.

The defendant, 38, and from The Meadows, denied all the charges during his trial.

Marquis is scheduled to be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday. However the Post understands the case is likely to be adjourned for a further six weeks on that date.
