Win a portable laptop or panto tickets
JANE Newton says she doesn't normally bother entering competitions because she never wins – but she's been proved wrong.
Jane, from Mansfield, won a pink cashmere and silk pashmina for just 1p in our reverse auction in aid of the £500,000 Maggie's appeal.
Jane said: "I'm really really pleased. I always thought I'm not bothering, I won't possibly win... but it just shows you."
Prizes worth more than £2,700 have been scooped by Post readers for just pennies in the reverse auction to help build a cancer caring centre in Nottingham.
A £695 designer Paul Smith bag was an absolute bargain, going for 85p in the auction where the lowest unique bid wins.
A £250 Nintendo Wii cost the winner just 4p while a £120 luxury carry-case of Elemis beauty products and facial went for 1p.
It means readers are getting a fantastic prize for next to nothing while the appeal fund is boosted by the £1 text bids.
A total of 280 bids were made for the £130 day spa package for two at Thoresby Hall Spa.
The winning bid of 56p was made by John Parry, of Mansfield.
This week's prize is a must for anyone leading a busy life.
The Carphone Warehouse has donated a £239 mini laptop.
The Elonex Webbook is lightweight and portable with a 10.2in screen. You can surf the web, read e-mails, create documents and spreadsheets and edit images on the go.
This week's other prize is a family ticket for four worth £72 to the opening night of this year's panto at Nottingham Playhouse.
The winner will attend the performance of Aladdin on Friday November 28 at 7.30pm, which marks a double celebration.
Not only will it see the return of Kenneth Alan Taylor as the dame Widow Twankey, it is also his 25th Playhouse panto.
Here's how to enter. In this auction, it's not how high you bid, it's how low. If yours is the lowest unique bid by the end of the auction, you win. So if lots of people bid a penny, and you are the only person to bid two pence, you win! All it costs you is the price of the text – in this case it's £1 plus your standard network rate – with all the profits going to Maggie's. The winner will also have to pay their bid. If yours is the lowest bid, we'll let you know. And if not, we'll also let you know. If you are bidding for the Webbook, grab your mobile and text EP SURF to 65100 plus your bid in pounds and pence. So if you text EP SURF 5 you will have bid £5. If you text EP SURF 0.50 you will have bid 50p.
For the panto tickets do the same but start your text EP ALADDIN followed by your bid.
Make sure you bid accurately. Use zero, not O, or your bid will not be recognised.
Terms and conditions: Texts cost £1 each plus normal network charges. Open to UK residents aged 18 and over. Please check with the bill payer before you make a bid. Minimum bid is 1p. The auction runs until 3pm on Monday, October 6. All auction lots are non-transferable with no cash alternatives. Payment of winning bids to be made to Nottingham Evening Post prior to delivery. The Nottingham Evening Post will not be held responsible for any breakdown in communications systems or networks which might result in a bid not being registered or any bid result/bid update text messages not being received. Usual Evening Post terms and conditions apply.
