The cold weather is due to relent by Sunday as temperatures look set to rise as high as 7C.

This combined with heavy rain could be enough to make the snow thaw.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "People should take precautions for ice on the roads, particularly on untreated areas.

"Snow fall could cause disruptions on Friday so people should stay in tune with there local authorities."

“Dear Evening Post, please stop getting my hopes up about the snow.

What we've had thus far is in no way out of the ordinary. If 5 foot drifts are expected, then please say.”
