Photographs taken of the victim at the time shows the extensive bruising, cuts and grazes he suffered to his face.
Two men set upon Mr Lecoutier at around 4.30pm after he got off a bus in Pleasley Hill and began to walk home.
As he reached Clarence Street in Pleasley, he was attacked from behind by two men in dark clothing who assaulted him and stole his satchel-style rucksack. It contained his Apple iPhone and iPad and some coursework and books.
Police have also released footage which shows the victim walking past a car garage at the top of Chesterfield Road North in Mansfield shortly before the robbery. Two men can be seen following him down the street and police are keen to speak to them.
Detective Constable Anthony Hewitt, from Mansfield CID, said: "Christian was an innocent victim who was simply walking home after enjoying a quiet meal.
"He was set upon by two violent offenders who were obviously intent on stealing his belongings. This happened in daylight hours and I'm confident that someone out there saw what happened or knows who did this.
"I urge anyone with information to get in touch with police to ensure they don't hurt anyone else."
Anyone with information about the robbery should contact Notts Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

“"Sssssh", perhaps you should. Obviously you have nothing usefu lat all to contribute. Thankfully, unlike you, there are still some people around who have some compassion and understanding of what victims of thuggery go through. Be ashamed.”

“i thought cctv was supposed to protect you ? they replaced the bobbies on the beat and are there for your interests and security,
correct me if i am wrong but i dont think a bobby on the beat would have stood by and watched this senseless kicking, ?.
and any normal purveyors of justice wouldn't take three months to put it out into the publics realm, ie can you remember what you were doing a week last thursday 5 years ago,,,”

“I am reluctant to reply to such a juvenile and immature comment.
If you misconstrue humanitarian compassion as having some sort of hidden agenda then I also have sympathy for you.
Your trivial contribution to this story will I am sure make you feel proud and that today has been a good day in your sad and unfulfilled life, and that you have scored a point against the world which holds you at arms length due to your somewhat perverted view of human nature.
The news is about an innocent young man being violently assaulted during a street robbery. Once again you have my enduring sympathy if your focus was drawn to my sympathetic comments, I apologise for diverting your limited attention from the simple facts of the news story toward my consideration for the victims future well being.
No doubt you will feel the need to respond with a comment which ridicules or rubbishes my disgust at this appalling incident but please be assured that I would be equally vociferous if you were the victim of such a callous and premeditated crime.
To trivialise these events, and use them as an opportunity for malicious trolling, is in itself a crime.”

“Someone should administer these cowardly thugs with a fatal beating. Preferably something slow yet intense to maximise their suffering.
Long after this innocent young mans physical injuries have healed, as significant as they are, he will have to endure a lifelong feeling of vulnerability and insecurity. Being the innocent victim of such extensive violence in a totally unprovoked attack will have a negative impact on the rest of his life. I sincerely hope and pray that he enjoys the luxury of loyal and loving friends and family who will help his physical, emotional and psychological recovery.
Christian, please accept all offers of professional support and counseling to help you move forward and recover from this despicable attack.”
