Village community installs wind turbine
A VILLAGE community has installed a new wind turbine.
Sustainable Hockerton Limited was set up in 2006 with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint of Hockerton, near Southwell.
It has installed its own community wind turbine to generate renewable energy and make the village more sustainable.
The turbine is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 50 homes, saving 160 to 200 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, and will allow the village to move forward in a bid to become more environmentally friendly.
The project was inspired by a turbine and solar panel scheme at the village's Housing Project Sustainable Resource Centre.
This was installed in 2004 by the Hockerton Housing Project (HHP) after a £7,000, part-funding grant from the ScottishPower Green Energy Trust.
