Top Valley man jailed for death by dangerous driving

A MAN who caused the death of an 18-year-old by dangerous driving was today locked up for four-and-a-half years.

Jake Fretwell, of Edern Gardens, Top Valley, was driving a stolen silver Vauxhall Vectra when it crashed into hay bales on the B6011 Forest Lane, near Papplewick, last May.

His passenger, 18-year-old Kyle Dooley, died from multiple injuries.

Fretwell appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing today.

He had pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at a previous hearing and was locked up for four-and-a-half years.

He was also given a 12-month sentence for the theft of the car which crashed, a four-month jail term for driving while disqualified and four months for been in possession of a bronze bell stolen from St Philip’s Church, in Top Valley. All sentences followed guilty pleas and will run concurrently.

He was also banned from driving for five years.

    “Limited sympathy here...You dance with the devil, you have to wait for the music to stop....
    And 4 1/2 yrs....how leinient can the judge be, how can you possibly mitigate this. The guy drove a stolen car, crashed it, and killed someone....4 1/2 yrs, the maximun is 14 or 15 yrs i think....I am not saying dooley had a crime ridden life worthy of more than this, but they driver killed someone....lame old british criminal justice system”
