VIDEO: This Is Live - Sapphire Lane
CHATTING to This Is Live's Zoe Kirk this week is teenage punk rock band, Sapphire Lane. The school friends say it's their diversity and originality which makes their sound "unique". They're ultimately rock kids who combine elements of metal, punk and blues. Amongst their music collection is: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Deep Purple, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters, Evanescence, Megadeth and old punk bands like Squirtgun.
Having played a few gigs they're now on their way to recording an EP.
Watch the five-piece talking to Zoe and performing their track, Memories.
And you are?
Kirsty Davis (vocals), Lewis Gillett, Luke Gillett (guitars), Daniel 'Dastill' Astill (bass), Adam Smith (drums).
History.
Daniel: I was in a group called The War Pigs with Lewis. Lewis: A really shocking band but it led to something great. Basically we decided to form a band because we all love listening to and playing music. Eventually we got the right line up and started to write songs and get gigs. Luke: We've played The Maze, Running Horse, Seven and The Diamond in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
What's with the band name?
Daniel: I always liked the name Sapphire. Then we went down Spring Lane and I thought 'Sapphire Lane would sound much better.' It stuck.
What are the day jobs?
Kirsty: We're A-level students.
Claims to fame?
Daniel: I know Chris Walker the superbike rider.
Which other Nottingham bands do you rate?
Lewis: Planet Friday. Awesome guys. Extremely good riffs and catchy tunes. Adam: Planet Friday are amazing. Luke: Without being biased mine and Lewis' cousin's band Satan's Minions are a good, loud metal band. Kirsty: Mars Bonfire, NG26, Junction.
