CHATTING to This Is Live's Zoe Kirk on the Stealth sofa this week is modern jazz three-piece, Matt Chandler Trio. Matt plays original melodic jazz guitar compositions, accompanied by bassist Karl Bingham and drummer Ian Beestin.

After Midnight is their recently-released, self-financed album and has been described by online jazz site, The Jazz Mann, as, "an unpretentious swinging, grooving album that should appeal to all jazz guitar fans." It's a review they feel particularly proud of.

History?

We got together to play at a "celebrity party" back in December 2008. We turned up but unfortunately the celebrities didn't.

Who are your influences?

Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell and Pat Martino.

What are the day jobs?

Matt and Karl are full-time professional musicians, Ian is a part-time professional musician and director of Bulletin PR.

Claims to fame?

Sir Paul McCartney personally awarded Matt his degree. Karl is in the Who's Who of British Jazz, Ian has also met Paul McCartney and his former wife Heather.

Which other Notts bands do you rate?

Wendy Kirkland, Brazilica, Ben Martin.

Next gigs?

January 28 at the Hubb, Hucknall Road, and the Newark Jazz Festival on May 21-23.
