ASPIRING soul and R'n'B star Laura Hill performs live and chats to Zoe Kirk on this week's This is Live video showcase. Since taking a serious interest in singing at the age of 14, Laura has penned several of her own songs. In the last year she's signed up to management company Red Jelly Productions and worked on sessions, including singing on a track for Sean from boyband Five. Laura also performed in the musical Mod Crop at the Theatre Royal.

Watch Laura and guitarist Andrew Randell performing Spend A Little Time and chatting to Zoe:

History?

I have been singing since the age of 14 and have been working professionally for the last year. I've worked with Jorden Milnes (Warner Chappell producer) on many of his tracks, including one with Sean from Five. I also appeared just last year at the Nottingham Theatre Royal in Mod Crop, the musical.

Describe your music and influences.

I'm very keen on singing R'n'B and dance and generally write R'n'B songs but I like almost every type of music. I'm influenced by Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Michael Jackson. I don't actually play an instrument as such but love writing lyrics and developing melodies.

What are the day jobs?

Care support worker in mental health and a student nurse in mental health.

Claims to fame?

I met Rowan Atkinson in a bakery.

Which other Notts bands do you rate?

Dog is Dead (Rob White was in Mod Crop with me).

Music for sale?

You can download my new track, Goldust, from iTunes.

“Undoubted quality in both vocal and musical ability but far too much emphasis on the vocal gymnastics at the detrement of the song, which is totally forgetable.
I suspect though given a great song we would see and hear the best of Laura.”
