STARRING on This Is Live, our online music video show, this month, is soulful indie three-piece, The Monstrous Dead. Timothy J Simpson, who we featured on the show two years ago, has joined forces with bass player Laura and drummer Marq to create a heavier, fuller sound. Timothy has worked with a variety of different musicians, including punk and indie bands, rappers, soul and hip hop artists.

However, after enlisting extra musicians to help record his solo album in 2010, he felt inspired to put together a permanent band. The three-piece work have already gathered together enough material for a third album, although they're concentrating on their second, You'd Be Alright In Florida, with a launch party at The Bodega next week.

And you are?

Timothy J Simpson (vocals, guitar), Laura Jean Brady (bass) and Marq Sutton (drums).

Where are you from in Nottingham?

Tim is from Arnold. Marq is from the an unspecified suburb and Brady comes from Derby, but don't tell anyone.

History?

Came together to play Timothy J Simpson's first album Our Glorious Hero Battles The Man back in 2010 as Tim couldn't play all the instruments he recorded himself.

Since then have gone on to gig regularly in Nottingham and further afield.

Describe your music and influences.

Varies... Imagine Neil Young played by the Replacements after they've spent all day listening to Howling Wolf while discussing punk ethics.

What are the day jobs?

Brady is an engineer, Tim is a writer, Marq works at Broadway.

Claims to fame?

At The Jam Cafe, Tim played a solo so blisteringly amazing that a skip burst into flames outside. And Tim once wet himself on stage with Cannon and Ball – thankfully this was as a child. Rock on, Tommy!

Which other Notts musicians do you rate?

Too many to mention! We really like Injured Birds and Will Jeffery has become a close friend (Tim helped him to produce his album). Tim says he really respects Shankland for his authenticity.

Next gig?

Our next show is the launch of our second album, You'd Be Alright In Florida, at The Bodega on Thursday. It's an early show, starting at 7pm and admission is free.
