The Ultimate Sacrifice
Oh wondrous moon in the sky, that shines upon the lake
Time stands still in this paradise, the place that Nature did make
Shadows dancing in its beams, and couples holding hands
Vows are pledged by young and old, this place in these fair lands
A women is sitting by her fire, and stares at the fire that's red
She sees a soldier beckoning her, with whom she was to wed
By the lake that they had admired, and on that moonlit night
He promised he would marry her, after he'd been to fight
Curly hair and a hearty laugh, she could see his cheeky grin
Her memories of him will never fade, and her love for him
Alas, he never did return, to the promise he made that day
His grave is in a battlefield, another life wasted away
Killed at the battle for Juno Beach, a sacrifice that he gave
There is no place of rest for him, not even a proper grave
He lost his life fighting, defending what he thought was right
To make a world that's free to us all, in God's given sight
